Gilded Age estate
The one true thing
You don't book a room at The Kemble. You take over an entire historic estate — thirteen bedrooms, three private acres, and enough to do that the property itself becomes the destination.
Built in 1881 for a U.S. Secretary of State and beautifully restored, The Kemble sits above the Stockbridge Bowl, a five-minute walk from downtown Lenox and minutes from Tanglewood. Rare, whole, and yours.
For every gathering

Marry where a U.S. Secretary of State once lived. The whole estate for the weekend — your party sleeps over, and the celebration stays on-site for up to 175 under a sailcloth tent.

Milestone birthdays, anniversaries, bachelorettes. Take over a Gilded Age mansion with a private mahogany bar, fire pits and acres of grounds for the people who matter.

Your whole team under one historic roof. Work, bond and unplug on a private estate — a real kitchen, breakout spaces and room to walk and talk, with a genuine carbon-neutral story.

One house big enough for everyone — thirteen en-suite bedrooms and a long farmhouse table where the whole family gathers. The bulk of our stays are multigenerational trips together.

A storied estate
In 1881, architects Rotch & Tilden built The Kemble for Frederick Frelinghuysen — U.S. Secretary of State — and his wife Martha. Frederick Law Olmsted, the designer of Central Park, consulted on the landscape.
The Frelinghuysens entertained lavishly; their guests included President Chester Arthur and J.P. Morgan. More than a century later, Shared Estates restored the house with bright, modern finishes — a registered Berkshire “Great Estate,” now 100% carbon neutral, that donates 1% of its income to the Lenox Library.
“The estate was somehow grander and more beautiful in person than in pictures.”
